About me: My name is Robert van Schie. I have had more than 30 years of experience both at home and abroad. I worked at the Dolfinarium in Harderwijk, but also at zoos in Belgium, France, Spain, Sweden and outside of Europe. I have learned that training is not just rewarding proper behaviour, but also to know and trust the animal and to feel empathy for it and to react in an appropriate way. During my internships at home and abroad I have learned that animals can get used to act voluntarily in a way that they would not naturally do. Moreover I learned that animals are much more intelligent than most people think. I am a certified animal behaviour therapist, specialised in wildlife, like Carnivores, Sea mammals and Herbivores.I started with Coach for Animals in 2013 in order to offer animals in the care of humans more animal welfare. In order tot keep enhancing my knowledge I participate regularly in seminars on behaviour and well-being. Furthermore I take part in congresses organised by several professional organisations. The exchange of experience and knowledge in the field of training/coaching/animal welfare are the key points of these congresses. Zookeepers, researchers from all over the world take part in them. I think is very important to keep up to date concerning new developments and insights regarding behaviour and well-being of animals, so I closely follow any scientific research on this.
